Picture books for Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month

May is Asian/Pacific American Heritage month! Throughout this time, we celebrate the cultures of individuals from Asia, and the Pacific island groups of Melanesia, Micronesia, and Polynesia. What better way to learn and honor these cultures than with picture books?

Here is a list of my favorites written and illustrated by individuals of Asian American or Pacific Islander American descent.

Amy Wu and the Perfect Bao

A Sari for Ammi

Ohana Means Family

Nikki Nakayama: A Chef’s Tale in 13 Bites

Drawn Together

Grandfather’s Journey

Hot Pot Night!

The Big Bath House

Eyes That Kiss in the Corners

The Fearless Flights of Hazel Ying Lee

The Ugly Vegetables
